Few Olympians have captured hearts across the internet quite like Alysa Liu. And with her final performance of the Milano-Cortina 2026 Winter Olympics, she’s skated her way to the gold medal.
Skating to Donna Summer’s disco anthem “MacArthur Park Suite” for her free skate program, 20-year-old American athlete (who already earned a gold medal in the team division) secured her spot at #1 for the women’s singles event. The groovy performance, choreographed by Massimo Scali, was paired with a glittering gold costume that moved effortlessly with her as she nailed each jump.
On the ice—apart from her impressive skills—Liu is widely known for her funky style. Her striped bleach hair, frenulum piercing, and alt-grunge fashion bring something new to the world of figure skating.
You may know her by her moving comeback story—in which she returned to the ice on her own terms after an early retirement, winning the 2025 World Figure Skating Championships and earning her spot on the United States’s 2026 Winter Olympics team.
At the very least, you’d have seen her emotional short program to Laufey’s “Promise,” which most recently took her to 3rd place in the Women Single Skating competition. (If you haven’t watched it yet, now’s your chance.)
For her short program performance, Liu wore a custom Lisa McKinnon dress, crafted with an open back and draped with layered pieces across the bodice. The uneven hemline, dipped in light blue, caught the wind with each jump for a dynamic look.
Following the final skate performances, her fellow “Blade Angels” came in at 12 (Isabeau Levito) and 5 (Amber Glenn).
